On 7 May 2026, residents in the Southall Broadway ward will vote to choose who represents them at Ealing Council.
EALING.NEWS has asked all candidates standing to become a councillor, 7 questions about who they are, what they hope to deliver and why they want residents to vote for them.
Here’s what Sukhi Floria, standing for Ealing Community Independents in Southall West, has to say:
Tell us a bit about yourself, your priorities for the ward and why you want to be councillor for Southall West?
I am a lifelong resident of Southall and care deeply about the future of our community. Over recent years, I have seen Southall West decline in ways that concern many residents – rising crime, open drug use and dealing near schools, increased fly-tipping, and a lack of visible policing and accountability.
Residents repeatedly raise concerns, but too often feel ignored. Many have experienced difficulty getting responses from current councillors, with emails and phone calls going unanswered. There is also a growing perception that representation has become disconnected from the community it serves.
I believe local leadership should be present, responsive, and accountable. That is why I am committed to introducing regular face-to-face resident surgeries, giving people a consistent and direct way to raise issues and be heard.
Through my professional background as a Business Analyst with project management experience, I bring strong problem-solving, organisational, and stakeholder engagement skills. I want to use these skills to ensure that concerns are not only heard but acted upon with clear outcomes.
My priorities are simple: safer streets, cleaner neighbourhoods, responsive representation, and rebuilding trust between residents and local government.
What motivates you?
I am motivated by solving problems and making a tangible difference. I take pride in identifying root causes and working collaboratively with residents, local businesses, and services to deliver practical solutions.
Just as importantly, I am motivated by ensuring people feel heard – because too many residents currently feel overlooked.
What is your personal connection to Southall West or the borough?
I was raised in Southall and have lived here for most of my life. I understand the community, its strengths, and its challenges because I have lived them.
What do you consider to be your 3 top political, work or personal achievements and what impact have they had?
Professional delivery and problem-solving: In my role as a Business Analyst, I have successfully delivered projects by coordinating stakeholders and turning complex challenges into clear, actionable outcomes.
Community advocacy: I have consistently raised local concerns and engaged with residents on key issues, helping to highlight problems that require urgent attention.
Commitment to representation: My decision to step forward reflects my commitment to improving accountability and ensuring residents have a councillor who is accessible and responsive.
What are the top 3 challenges Southall West faces and how will you address them?
Southall West faces several urgent challenges:
Drug use and dealing near schools
I will campaign for stronger policing, including reopening Southall Police Station, and work with enforcement agencies to prioritise safety around schools.
Fly-tipping and environmental neglect
I will push for tougher enforcement, increased prosecutions, and better resourcing to keep our streets clean.
Crime and anti-social behaviour, including muggings
I will advocate for increased police presence, improved lighting, and stronger partnerships between residents and authorities.
Alongside this, I will ensure regular face-to-face surgeries and consistent communication, so residents can report issues and see progress.
What do you love about Southall West and the borough of Ealing?
Southall is one of the most vibrant and diverse communities in London, with a strong sense of identity and pride. Ealing offers huge potential, and I want to ensure Southall West fully benefits from that.
How accessible will you be to residents and how can they contact you?
Accessibility will be a top priority. I will ensure:
Regular face-to-face resident surgeries
Prompt responses to emails and phone calls
Active engagement through community visits and local meetings
Residents deserve a councillor who is visible, approachable, and responsive. I will set clear standards for communication and accountability so people know they will be heard and supported. Residents can reach me at info@ealingindependents.org
Closing statement
