Celebrity volunteers including TV chefs Clodagh McKenna and Mark Wogan spent Christmas Eve (24 December 2025) morning at the Felix Project’s Acton depot sorting surplus food destined for families and community groups across London, as charities faced a festive spike in need.
Ms McKenna volunteered alongside her husband, Harry Herbert, and stepchildren Will and Chloe. She was joined by the chef and broadcaster Mark Wogan, who brought his son Harry to help. The group spent the morning decanting and organising food due to be delivered later in the day to organisations running last-minute food support services on 24 December 2025, and in some cases on Christmas Day.
Ms McKenna said: “It is an inspiration to see the work of The Felix Project and all the amazing food they rescue. Food brings me such joy and keeps us all happy and healthy, but I am so saddened to know that so many people are really struggling to afford to buy the food they need. I am so happy to be here with my family and to know we are helping to feed people during these difficult times.”
Mr Wogan added: “There is such a huge amount of food waste across the industry, I have seen it again and again. I was delighted to know all those years ago my food would not be going to waste and I am now once again delighted to see how the charity has grown and is doing so much more to prevent food waste and use it to feed people.”
The Felix Project said the weeks before Christmas were its busiest, with supermarkets holding extra festive stock. In the week of 8 December, the Acton depot rescued more than 108 tonnes of food, about 11% higher than a typical September week. Across four depots, almost 430 tonnes were rescued, around 18% more.
