Students at Greenford High School were given a taste of real-world recruitment last Thursday (20 November 2025) when local employers visited the school for a large-scale mock interview event organised by Connexions Ealing careers advisers.
Around 300 Year 10 pupils took part, practising their interview techniques and receiving targeted feedback intended to boost their confidence ahead of work placements scheduled for June 2026.
Students rotated through 10-minute interviews before receiving five minutes of tailored guidance on how to improve. Careers staff said the session was designed to help pupils understand employer expectations and gain practical experience of the questions commonly asked in early-stage recruitment.
Sujith Weerasinghe, Specsavers’ regional relationship manager for north-west London, said: “I’m delighted to support this careers event. I believe it’s really important to help the next generation rise and succeed in their careers.”
He added: “The students are very fortunate to have the Connexions Ealing careers advisers offer guidance around preparing for the job market and supporting them with regard to potential career pathways.”
Professionals from a range of local businesses asked competency-based questions, mirroring those used in real interviews. Staff said the exercise underlined the importance of preparation and helped students reflect on their strengths.
Specsavers, one of the participating employers, said the event aligned with its focus on staff development. The company offers apprenticeships and recognised qualifications covering roles including optical assistant, dispensing optician, audiologist and laboratory technician.
