Lidl’s Hanwell supermarket reopened today (27 November 2025) following a major expansion that the company says will improve choice and convenience for shoppers ahead of Christmas.
The store on Uxbridge Road, which first opened in 1998, closed late spring (June 2025) to allow work to begin on an enlargement that took over the neighbouring unit previously occupied by discount retailer Poundstretcher. The multi-million pound refurbishment has increased the shop’s sales area by more than 50 per cent and employ 42 staff, which Lidl says is an increase on previous levels.
Lidl said the revamp allows the branch to stock a wider range of its low cost products, along with an improved in store bakery and an extended Middle of Lidl section. Opening hours remain unchanged at 8am to 10pm from Monday to Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sundays.
The upgraded shop now includes 6 staffed tills and 12 self checkouts. The company confirmed to EALING.NEWS that customers will still be able to park for up to three hours with no changes planned.
A Lidl GB spokesperson said: “We are proud to have served the Ealing community for over two decades. As demand for our best value products continues to grow, we are thrilled to expand our offering and make it easier for residents to access the quality and affordability they know and love. We would like to thank everyone for their patience during the extensive refurbishment. We know the community has been eagerly anticipating the reopening.”
Lidl said the Hanwell branch continues to support local charities through its Feed it Back network. Since 2017 it has donated more than 17,700 meals to groups including City Harvest London, Hanwell Seventh Day Adventist Community Ministries and The Felix Project.
