Children showcase artistic flair at Descendants event

Children from Acton showed off their artistic talents at a special event organised by Descendants as part of Black History Month celebrations.

Ealing Liberal Democrat Leader Councillor Gary Malcolm was invited by Margaret Noel, chair of Descendants, to help judge the group’s children’s art competition, which took place at the Acton Gardens Community Centre in Acton.

Over three days during the half-term week, the young participants worked hard to produce a range of colourful and imaginative artworks. The overall winners were 11-year-old Ruben, 9-year-old Jeanae, and 6-year-old Omari.

Councillor Malcolm held up one of the winning paintings in recognition of one of the children who was unable to attend.

During the session, attendees also watched a video produced by Descendants about Ottobah Cugoano, the abolitionist who campaigned against slavery in the 18th century.

Councillor Gary Malcolm said: “Liberal Democrats have to applaud The Descendants for their non-stop work to help educate many children in the borough, help support children to be more creative and keep the kids having a fun time by playing sports.”
