OBE for Ealing Council specialist supporting vulnerable young people

A youth justice and safeguarding specialist who works with some of Ealing’s most vulnerable young people and families has been awarded an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours.

Jennie Truman, project co-ordinator of Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforces and a youth justice worker at Ealing Council, was recognised for services to vulnerable young people and families.

Ms Truman works with young people who are outside mainstream education or involved with the Youth Justice Service, helping to coordinate support for them and their families.

Her role includes advising families when there is police involvement, attending safeguarding meetings and providing practical support through home visits, food bank schemes and school holiday activities.

Ms Truman said: “I work with some of the most vulnerable children and families in the borough and am passionate about all children having opportunities to achieve their potential.

“I like that I have the time to give to the children and their families to challenge, advocate and support them to achieve developmental milestones that they should. Giving the consistent space for a child to be heard is paramount.”
