Hanwell Town powered into the Isuzu FA Trophy second round proper on Saturday (25 October 2025), after a hard-fought 2-0 victory against St Albans City.
On a bright autumnal day in St Albans, the Geordies held firm against sustained pressure to deservedly claim a victory and clean sheet.
Fresh from a brilliant 3-2 league win against Havant & Waterlooville on Wednesday evening, the game couldn’t have started better for Hanwell. On 9 minutes, the excellent, Harry Rice, fed the ball to Dan Carr who assuredly slotted home from the edge of the 18-yard box.
St Albans responded well to going behind though and Hanwell spent a lot of the first half digging in. Betjemann, Sery and Dyer all had chances for the hosts but the Geordies defended admirably.

Even though Hanwell created more in the second half, with Joe Wilson going close after a brilliant long-distance run and Alfie Pendlebury’s good header forcing the keeper into a save – St Albans continued to enjoy the majority of possession and territory.
But after a vintage captain’s performance from Hanwell goalkeeper, Sam Beasant – who made a series of outstanding stops – the Geordies earned a superb clean sheet.
Passage through to the next round was assured in the 85th minute when Jordy Mongoy found Pendlebury, who kept his composure to rifle the ball past Magnus Norman in the St Albans net.
After the game, Hanwell manager, Chris Moore, credited an “outstanding” defensive effort from his team and thought the victory was “fully deserved”.
On Saturday 1st November, the Geordies will be looking to make it three wins in a row when they play Taunton Town at the Oliver Connell & Son Community Stadium. Tickets can be purchased here.
