Facial recognition cameras were deployed in Ealing on Tuesday (17 June 2025), in a Metropolitan Police operation that led to three arrests for various offences. The initiative aimed to tackle crime and identify wanted individuals using live facial recognition (LFR) technology.
First introduced in Ealing in April 2024, the technology has since been used on a number of occasions across the borough including Acton and Southall.
The Met described it as “invaluable” in deterring crime and said “it received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the general public” for its deployment.

The system, used at locations including train stations and high streets, scans faces in real time against a database of wanted individuals. Officers reassured locals in Ealing that any images not linked to a person of interest are deleted immediately, which they say upholds privacy alongside public safety.
Speaking to EALING.NEWS, Inspector Crystal Govers from Ealing Safer Neighbourhoods said: “I am incredibly proud of my diligent and hard-working Safer Neighbourhoods officers. Their dedication has made this operation a resounding success for all residents of Ealing, delivering on our ward priorities for local residents and upholding the values of the Metropolitan Police Service.”
