Canadians Taylor and Tuffnail re-sign with Trailfinders Women

Trailfinders Women have received a major boost ahead of the new season with the re-signings of Canadian internationals Emma Taylor and Cassandra Tuffnail.

Both players, key figures in the forward pack, have committed their futures to the club, strengthening the side’s core as preparations begin for the upcoming campaign.

Taylor, who joined from Saracens in 2024, has made a strong impression as a goal-kicker and forward. Despite spending the latter part of last season sidelined with injury, the experienced Canadian has been dedicated to her rehabilitation and is expected to make a significant impact upon her return.

Taylor signed: “I’m so happy to be re-signing with Trailfinders for next season. We’ve built an incredible squad and I can’t wait to get back started with the group and I’m so pumped for next season.”

Head Coach Barney Maddison praised Taylor’s resilience and influence within the team, noting: “Emma’s experience, both as a player and a goal-kicker, has been invaluable to the team. Her commitment to her rehab recently shows her determination to come back strong, and we’re excited to have her back for next season.”

Alongside Taylor, fellow Canadian international Cassandra Tuffnail has also recommitted to the club. A powerful scrummager with leadership credentials, the 27-year-old has been a central figure since joining the Trailfinders, bringing with her experience from clubs including Fergus Highland RFC, Richmond RFT and the University of Guelph Gryphons.

A graduate of the Trailfinders Rugby Academy and former captain of Brunel University Women’s Rugby, Tuffnail expressed her enthusiasm about staying with the squad. She said: “I’m really excited to continue my journey at Trailfinders Women. The club has been so supportive, and I’m looking forward to pushing for more success with such a talented squad.”

Maddison spoke highly of Tuffnail’s technical skill and leadership on the field. He added: “Cassandra has been an integral part of our pack, both for us and for Canada. Her technical scrummaging and leadership qualities are a huge asset to the team, and we’re delighted to have her on board for next season.”
