Ealing Council has granted planning permission to housing association giant Peabody and developer Mount Anvil for the third and final phase of the Friary Park estate regeneration in Acton.
The approved phase follows the delivery of 135 affordable homes in the first phase – 85 of which were allocated to existing estate residents and 50 to those on the council’s housing waiting list.
Construction of the second phase is currently being undertaken and the green light for the final phase paves the way for 693 new homes which is 32% of Ealing’s annual housing target. Once completed, the development will comprise 1,345 homes of which 470 are classed as affordable.
Designed by HTA Design, the final plans feature increased public open space, nearly 1,300 sq m more community space than the original estate and a new 450 sq m community centre which is co-designed with residents.
Peabody and Mount Anvil say they have undertaken more than 400 community events and engagement with residents throughout the process.
Sofia Fernandes of the Friary Park Residents’ Steering Group said: “I’m delighted that Ealing Council has approved the third and final planning application to deliver more affordable homes in our new Friary Park community. This regeneration is a chance to improve the lives of all residents, and to give them a better future.”
Phil Jenkins, chief investment officer at Peabody, commented: “With new social homes, a fantastic community centre, and big improvements to the estate, it’s clear the regeneration is having a positive impact.”
Marcus Bate, partnerships, planning, communities & sustainability director of Mount Anvil added: “This win for residents is testament to the collaboration that’s taken place over many years in Acton… I can’t wait to see many more smiling faces on Friary Park residents in the months and years ahead.”
