Ofsted grades Featherstone Primary and Nursery School as Outstanding

Following an inspection last month (8 and 9 May 2024), Featherstone Primary and Nursery School in Southall has moved up from its 2022 Good grade to being rated now as Outstanding by The Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted).

The inspectors praised the school, it’s teachers and pupils by saying: “Pupils love attending Featherstone Primary and Nursery School. They appreciate the excellent education that this inspirational school provides.

Ofsted inspectors also rated highly the approach Featherstone takes to teaching its pupils.

They said: “Reading is at the heart of the school’s provision. Phonics lessons in early years help children to quickly become confident readers. Expert staff model sounds precisely and ensure that pupils read books which are well matched to the sounds they know. Staff use a wide range of diverse and interesting stories to inspire pupils and model how to read with fluency and expression. For pupils who are new to English, or those who find learning to read more difficult, staff waste no time in providing well targeted extra support.”

Staff performance along with good behaviour of pupils got the thumbs up from the inspectors. The report said: Highly skilled staff make sure that they work closely with parents and get to know children individually. This means that they can design learning activities that match the children’s needs and interests. As a result, children thrive, demonstrate high levels of self-control and become eager learners. This enthusiasm for learning continues as pupils move through the school. Behaviour is exemplary and pupils look forward to coming into school every day.”

Speaking to EALING.NEWS, headteacher Des Lee said: ” I am so pleased that all our talented and dedicated staff, pupils, parents and governors have received recognition for their hard work and successful achievements.”

Mr Lee added: “Our children and our community feel so proud, happy and excited to be part of our Featherstone family.”.
