Northolt-based Middlesex Football Association has made footballing history by becoming the first County FA in England to be led entirely by women at its highest levels.
Middlsex FA, located in Rectory Park, announced that Philina Toiny has been appointed chair, joining chief executive Kayleigh Saunders and president Barbara Bivens to form an all-female leadership team.
The historic shift follows the success of England’s Lionesses, whose recent back-to-back European Championship triumphs – the latest a dramatic final penalty win over Spain in Switzerland – have inspired a surge in women’s football at every level.
Ms Toiny said: “It’s an honour to lead Middlesex FA alongside Kayleigh and Barbara, two trailblazing women whose dedication to the game is unmatched. Together, we are passionate about building an inclusive football community that reflects the diversity of Middlesex and inspires the next generation of players, coaches, and leaders.”
Ms Saunders, CEO, echoed the sentiment: “This moment is about more than just leadership; it’s a symbol of progress in a sport that has long been male-dominated. We are proud to show that football is for everyone, and our leadership team is committed to making sure opportunities are accessible to all, especially girls and women.”
For Ms Bivens, the appointment is a reflection of the changing face of the game: “The Lionesses have changed the game and captured hearts across the nation. Middlesex FA’s leadership reflects that spirit of breaking barriers and striving for excellence – on and off the pitch.”
