Match report: Yate Town 2 v Hanwell Town 0

A poor away performance from Hanwell Town on Saturday (28 March 2026) resulted in a two-nil defeat against a relegation threatened Yate Town. A goal from Marlon Jackson gave the home side the lead midway through the first half, with Rex Mannings doubling the Bluebells lead and securing the three points.

The home side started the better team with a couple of half chances however both were offside with the Geordies holding a good defensive line. Another chance fell for Yate with a freekick fired straight at Sam Beasant in goal.

The away side replied with a flurry of opportunities. A long throw from Eli Oladunjoye troubled the Yate backline with Ernaldo Krasniqi flicking on and Dwayne Duncan hooking towards goal but it was saved by Aaron Sainsbury above his head.

Five minutes later, a ball played through the Yate defence caused a mix up with the two centre backs allowing Harvery Bradbury the chance to poach and poke past Sainsbury. However, he recovered well and denied the striker.

Despite the Hanwell pressure, 26 minutes into the first half Yate took the lead. A mistake from Jack Matton presented the ball to Mannings who played a low pass across the box into the path of Jackson. He took the shot well and fired well past Beasant into the bottom left corner.

After this, the game fizzled out. Going towards the break, neither team could create many strong chances. The blustery weather didn’t help with the ball holding up from goal kicks and throw ins, reducing the threat of Oladunjoye’s long throw.

The last chance of the half fell to the home side with Jackson having a sharp shot in the box. Hanwell keeper Beasant got down well at his near post to deny the Bluebells extending their lead. The half ended with Yate having a one goal lead.

The second half started in the same way the first ended. Neither team could create many chances, with the Geordies having the best of them.
Nine minutes into the second half, a corner was cleared to the edge of the box where Seidou Sanogo met the ball and unleashed a rocket towards goal. The ball flicked off the head of Ernaldo Krasniqi, cannoning off the bar, with Hanwell inches away from an equaliser.

After a flurry of substitutions from both sides, the game was dragging towards a dull end.

10 minutes from the end, Yate substitute Chris Zebroski did well to beat Roberto Nditi down the left side and drive towards the by line. He pulled the ball back to a waiting Mannings who remained calm and slotted past Beasant to double the Yate lead.

Hanwell ended the second half with two late chances. Henry Snee tried to sneak in at the back post following a deep cross from Oladunjoye. He poked the ball towards goal but it was blocked well by Sainsbury and put out for a corner. A header from Matton was the Geordies last chance but it was easily saved.

After seven minutes additional time and a debut for new signing Ibrahiim Sankoh, the referee blew the whistle on what was a disappointing performance and result for Hanwell.

Hanwell manager Chris Moore said after the game, “It was a pretty even game but mistakes cost us”.

A two-nil defeat dents Hanwell’s good momentum but they still sit 12th in the table. The Geordies are next in action on Tuesday 31st March against a high-flying Sholing side in a 19:45 kick off at the Oliver Connel and Son Community Stadium.
