Broadfields United inflicted a Middlesex Senior Cup upset against Hanwell Town on Tuesday (3 January 2026), as they ran out 2-0 winners in their semi-final clash.
Hanwell sit two leagues above Broadfields and went into the game full of confidence having secured three consecutive league victories. But on a miserably wet evening at Broadfields’ Tithe Farm ground, the home side delivered a statement performance as the Geordies couldn’t find a reply to first half goals from Lord Mansoh and Arif Bala.
Following a cagey set of opening exchanges that saw both sides swap several long-range efforts on goal, the game sparked into life in the 24th minute when Mansoh powered the ball home having been afforded far too much room on the Hanwell right.
Broadfields doubled their lead seven minutes later. The excellent Bala – who proved to be a constant menace – robbed the Geordies of possession and then brilliantly squeezed his long-range shot into the Hanwell net.
With Broadfields in a commanding position at the break, the game underwent an extended delay as unfortunately, one of the linesmen was taken ill during half time.
Once proceedings were back underway and despite an overwhelming amount of possession and territory, Hanwell never looked likely to get back into the tie. Harry Rice had a couple of opportunities but in truth, Broadfields managed the remainder of the game superbly and are fully deserving of their place in the final.
Speaking after the match, Hanwell manager, Chris Moore had “no complaints” with the result but said he wouldn’t let it “derail” his side whose attention now turns to Saturday’s league game against Sholing at the Oliver Connell and Son Community Stadium. Kick off is at 3pm and tickets can be found here.
