Ealing Trailfinders have confirmed Angus Kernohan as club captain for the coming Championship campaign, with hooker Mike Willemse and back-row forward Jordy Reid appointed as vice-captains.
Kernohan, who joined the Ealing team in 2020, has developed into a central figure within the squad over his five years at the club. Last season he co-captained Trailfinders to a third Championship title alongside Ollie Newman, who is currently sidelined through injury.
Reflecting on his reappointment, Kernohan said: “I’m delighted to be captain again this year, I really enjoyed last year and think we built a really strong group, I’m hoping we can continue to grow and improve.”
He added: “This is a great club which I’m proud to represent and hopeful for another successful season.”
The 25-year-old will be supported by Willemse, who joined from London Irish in 2023 and has quickly established himself as a key member of the squad, and Reid, now in his second spell at the club after a successful first stint.
Ben Ward, the director of rugby for the club, praised the leadership group and underlined the importance of continuity following last season’s success.
Mr Ward said: “Angus and Ollie did a brilliant job as co-club captain’s last year and I really enjoyed working with them. Ollie is currently in rehab, and we wish him a fast return to the pitch. I’m delighted that Angus will continue in the role.”
He added: “Alongside him are vice-captains Jordy and Mike, and all three players have the respect of the players and backroom staff. They will each bring their own unique qualities to the role, and we’re all looking forward to them leading us this season into a new-look Championship.”
