Why I’m standing: Glen Miller, Ealing Community Independents, South Acton

On 7 May 2026, residents in the South Acton ward will vote to choose who represents them at Ealing Council.

EALING.NEWS has asked all candidates standing to become a councillor, 7 questions about who they are, what they hope to deliver and why they want residents to vote for them.

Here’s what Glen Miller, standing for Ealing Community Independents in South Acton has to say:

Tell us a bit about yourself, your priorities for the ward and why you want to be councillor for South Acton?
I’m a long-time South Acton resident and independent candidate standing for Community over Power. My priority is making sure local people have a real say in decisions that affect them – especially around housing, community safety, and support for grassroots groups. I want to be a councillor because I’ve seen too many residents feel ignored. I will be a visible, accountable voice for South Acton.

What motivates you?
Seeing what happens when neighbours come together to solve problems. During COVID, I saw volunteers feed a million meals. On the Your Voice, Your Town committee, I saw £80,000 go directly to over 50 local groups. That community power is what motivates me – and I want to unlock more of it as your councillor.

What is your own personal connection to South Acton or any other part of the borough?
South Acton is my home. For over a decade, I’ve worked with the Redbrick Community Group through the regeneration. I’ve knocked on doors, listened to residents worried about demolition, loss of community spaces, and rising costs. I’m not a politician parachuted in – I’m a neighbour who stayed and fought alongside you.

What do you consider to be your 3 top political, work or personal achievements and what impact have they had?
1. 10+ years with Redbrick Community Group – Helped shape the South Acton regeneration from a resident-led perspective, keeping community needs at the centre.
2. COVID Community Champion – Coordinated with over 100 community groups to help deliver a million meals to vulnerable residents across Ealing.
3. Your Voice, Your Town committee member – Helped award £80,000 to more than 50 diverse community groups, funding everything from youth activities to food banks.

What do you consider to be the top 3 challenges South Acton faces and how will you as a councillor address them?
1. Loss of community space – I’ll fight for binding commitments to retain and fund accessible community venues as regeneration continues.
2. Cost of living & food insecurity – I’ll expand local food partnerships and push for a ward-level hardship fund, using my experience from COVID and grant-making.
3. Feeling ignored by the council – I’ll hold regular street-level drop-ins, respond within 48 hours, and publish a monthly ward report so residents see exactly what I’m doing.
4. The drugs crisis in Acton – I will work with police, local businesses, and residents to clean up the growing loitering of hard drug users in our ward, push for visible enforcement, and support addiction recovery services.

What do you love about South Acton and the borough of Ealing?
I love the resilience and kindness of South Acton people. From the local cafés to the neighbours who still check on each other years after the pandemic. Ealing is a borough of real diversity and real community spirit – but it needs councillors who trust that spirit, not smother it.

How accessible will you be to South Acton residents and how can they get in contact with you now and if elected?
I will be the most accessible candidate in South Acton.
