Firefighters have urged residents to take care when charging e-bikes and e-scooters after a house fire in West Acton in the early hours of today (17 February 2026).
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to Queen’s Drive at 4.19am. Crews from Ealing, Acton, Park Royal and Chiswick fire stations brought the blaze under control by 5.34am.
Part of the ground floor of the two-storey house was damaged. No injuries were reported.
London Fire Brigade said the fire is believed to have been caused by the failure of a lithium-ion battery that was charging at the time. Several bikes, batteries and chargers were found inside the property.
A spokesperson said: “Mismatching the charger increases the risk of fire. It’s also important not to overcharge and to unplug the charger once it’s completed charging. Never charge an e-bike or e-scooter unattended or whilst you’re sleeping.”
In 2025, firefighters attended more than 200 e-bike and e-scooter fires across London, a record high. The brigade said many incidents involve battery failures, conversion kits or chargers, particularly items bought online that do not meet UK safety standards
