Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a major blaze at a row of mid-terrace shops and homes on North Road in Southall in the early hours of Wednesday morning (22 October 2025).
A detached garage and an extension at the rear of one property were completely destroyed as flames tore through the building. Two people were rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, while around 40 residents evacuated nearby buildings before crews arrived. No injuries were reported.
Four propane cylinders were removed from the site as a precaution and cooled to a safe temperature. Cylinders exposed to heat can explode, and the London Fire Brigade said the swift action prevented further danger.
A 32-metre turntable ladder was used as a water tower to attack the fire from above, as firefighters battled to contain the flames.
Control officers received the first of 12 emergency calls at 1.31am, mobilising crews from Southall, Ealing and Hillingdon stations. The blaze was brought under control just after 3.40am.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
