A Metropolitan Police “Safe Haven” for late night and early hours travellers is now operating at Ealing Broadway train station during December, providing a safe space for people travelling home.
The initiative, part of the Met’s local policing priorities to combat violence against women and girls, runs on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 9pm to 3am, with additional support planned for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
Officers will be on site at Ealing Broadway station to offer reassurance and practical help to passengers who may feel vulnerable, unwell, or unable to complete their journeys safely.
In a MetEngage post announcing the scheme, police said: “Take a moment to pause, charge your phone, order a taxi, or chat with officers for safety advice and crime prevention tips. We’re here to help you get home safely.”
Speaking to EALING.NEWS, London Assembly Member for Ealing and Hillingdon, Bassam Mahfouz welcomed the police initiative: “Many women have shared with me how unsafe they feel returning home late at night, with the fear of male violence against women and girls still a very real concern. At a time of year when so many are out celebrating with friends and family, it’s vital that every woman can feel secure while travelling home and so this is an incredibly welcome initiative from the Met Police.”
He added: “The presence of dedicated officers offering reassurance, support and practical help will make a real difference, and this is an incredibly welcome. I’m proud to see the team operating it from such a busy hub station throughout December, and I urge everyone to share this information widely.”
