Policing future talks held at Ealing’s UWL

Ealing’s University of West London has hosted a delegation from Sweden as part of a workshop on policing education.

The university’s Institute for Policing Studies welcomed 16 delegates from the Unit of Police Work at Umeå University last month (22 January 2026).

Academics from both institutions took part in a one-day programme, sharing approaches to policing, police education and what they described as best practice.

Andy Rose, head of the Institute for Policing Studies, said: “This was an invaluable and insightful day. During the workshop sessions, it was clear that academia and policing in the UK and Sweden face similar challenges but, more importantly, exciting opportunities in the coming years.”

Daniel Skog, director of the Unit of Police Work at Umeå University, said: “The visit to the Institute for Policing Studies was rewarding and inspiring. The discussions gave us valuable insights into how police education is approached in a different national context.”

Both institutions said they hoped to continue discussions and develop cooperation in the months ahead.
