The third protest saw protesters with banners outside Perceval House on Wednesday (17 January 2024) calling on Ealing Council to keep the golf course open which was established in 1930.
The protesters were joined by Ealing Liberal Democrats leader Councillor Gary Malcolm and Councillor Jon Ball.
Leslie Glancy, club captain 2023 of Perivale Park Golf Club told Ealing News: “Since September last year we’ve held three public protests, collected nearly five thousand petition signatures and handed out countless posters and leaflets all in the name of keeping Perivale Park Golf Course open.”
Mr Chapman added: “We’ve lobbied and written to everyone we can think of to try and get out message across. Perivale Park Golf course can be an integral part of the regional scheme. It doesn’t have to be closed. There is room for additional trees, more rewilding and integrating safe walkways across the course. We have told Ealing Council about our plans and would be more than happy to tell them again.”
On X (formerly known as Twitter), Councillor Malcolm said: “Lib Dems in Ealing will fight to save open spaces and protect sporting and recreational activities.”
Ealing Council said in a September 2023 statement it “will soon appoint specialists to develop more detailed plans for the regional park, which may include a comprehensive review of the golf facilities across the borough. In line with the council’s commitment to be open and transparent, residents and key stakeholders will be consulted on proposals before any decision is made, and the first public consultation will be on the possible closure of Perivale Park Golf Course.”
