Met Police target prolific shoplifters in Ealing crackdown

Metropolitan Police say an operation against shoplifting in Ealing has led to multiple arrests and enforcement measures, after officers spent a day focusing on what they describe as some of the area’s most persistent offenders.

The Met revealed that officers from Ealing Broadway and West Ealing/Hanwell teams carried out a “retail crime focus day” earlier this month (18 November 2025), working with local businesses and the Business Improvement District to identify 15 prolific shoplifters of concern. Local councillors accompanied officers during the day.

According to the force, the operation resulted in five community protection warnings, one community protection notice, four arrests and two foot chases. Officers also conducted eight hours of high-visibility patrols in the town centre, which the Met said were intended to reassure traders and deter further offending.

Police said one woman, identified as a suspect in 17 shoplifting investigations this year, was arrested on suspicion of theft and burglary and subsequently remanded in custody until 9 December. Officers said welfare issues had been raised in her case and that her current address would be closed, with a move to supported accommodation planned.

A man described as a repeat shoplifter at Sainsbury’s was also arrested for allegedly breaching a criminal behaviour order and stealing more than £350 of wine. The Met said he had now been banned from entering Ealing Broadway and Hanwell.

Officers added that they held a street briefing on Grosvenor Road, W13, gathering information from residents about policing concerns.
