A pub on Uxbridge Road in Hanwell has warned that emergency roadworks by Cadent Gas to repair a gas escape in the area has caused serious disruption, with missed deliveries, uncollected waste and safety concerns for staff.
The Kings Arms said the works have been ongoing for several weeks, affecting day-to-day operations and access.
In a Facebook post, the pub said: “We’re really struggling with deliveries at The Kings Arms because of the roadworks outside.”
It said waste had not been collected for more than three weeks and deliveries had been disrupted because drivers could not park nearby. It added: “Our staff then had to carry heavy beer barrels across the road themselves because the delivery company refused to do so for health and safety reasons.”
An Ealing Council spokesperson told EALING.NEWS: “Cadent Gas has confirmed to us that the repairs to the gas mains have been completed and they are looking to put the road back to how it was, which is expected to be finished by this Saturday (28 February 2026).”
In a statement to EALING.NEWS, a Cadent spokesperson said: “We were called to a smell of gas to a property along Uxbridge Road, Hanwell approximately four weeks ago. Upon investigation, we found a number of gas escapes in the area that needed to be stopped and repaired immediately for safety reasons.
“Working with the local HA we put in place four-way traffic lights to ensure the safety of road users and our emergency engineers.
“The emergency repair work was complex due to the amount of other utilities (pipes and cables) in the footpaths and roads that must be avoided. This slowed down the repair work we needed to complete. However, we utilised a vacuum excavator to reduce the size of excavations, which also reduces the time we need to be in the roads.
“We have repaired a number of gas escapes in the footpaths and in the road along Uxbridge Road and Boston Road without disruption to any gas supplies.
“We needed to change the traffic management over this period of time, due to the different locations of the gas escapes.
“The gas repair work has now been completed, and the road will be reinstated tomorrow, with traffic management being removed as soon as possible on Saturday.”
“We would like to thank businesses and road users for their patience and understanding whilst we carried out these emergency repairs as safely and quickly as possible.”
