February 2025 HS2 work updates in Ealing

High speed rail network HS2 has announced details of borehole, connection and construction work it will be undertaking next month (February 2025) in Greenford, Hanger Lane and Northolt.

Greenford – West Green Place (Borehole)
HS2 has said that from 3 to 8 February 2025 it will drill a new groundwater monitoring borehole on West Green Place. It says this is to support the construction of new HS2 tunnels.

In order to do the work, HS2 will suspend three parking bays for the duration of the work.

Hanger Lane – West Gate, W5 1UL (Power connection)
HS2 said that having postponed December 2024 works to carry out power connection to its Westgate Ventilation Shaft and Headhouse construction site, it will now be undertaking the work from 3 to 28 February 2025.

Part of the footpath and cycle lane on West Gate near Manhattan Apartments will be closed while the work is being undertaken. A pedestrian diversion will also be in place.

Cyclists will need to dismount from their bikes and use the pedestrian diversion route.

Northolt – Near Carr Road (Construction)
HS2 will be constructing cross passage 19 below the ground, near Carr Road in Northolt from 7 to 28 February 2025.

HS2 explained that cross passages between the tunnels will allow HS2 passengers to get to safety in the event of an emergency and are approximately 500 metres apart along the route.

It said it will be working 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To avoid overnight disturbance, it says noisy activities will be limited to between 7am and 10pm Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm on Saturday and 10 am to 3pm on Sunday. It will carry out quieter works during the night.

This cross passage is about 21 metres below ground and 30 metres away from the nearest property.
