Ealing Samaritans prepare for festive demand

Ealing, Hammersmith & Hounslow Samaritans is running a Christmas fundraising drive, including carol singing at Ealing Broadway train station and the sale of charity Christmas cards, as the branch prepares for what it expects to be a demanding festive period.

The West London branch said a group of local volunteers and supporters would sing carols at Ealing Broadway station between 5pm and 7pm next week (18 December 2025). It is also selling seasonal cards at the Ealing Charity Christmas Card Shop at the Church of Christ the Saviour in New Broadway, Ealing.

Juliet Medforth, a co-director of the Ealing, Hammersmith & Hounslow branch, said winter could be a hard time for many people and that pressures on household budgets may add to that this year.

Ms Medforth said: “Winter can be a hard time for many, and this year could be especially so, as households brace themselves for higher bills. Our Christmas fundraising activity is to support the service being offered 365 days a year by the 120 volunteers in our branch. A call to 116 123 means that there is no need to struggle alone.”

The Samaritans said volunteers would be on duty throughout the festive period, with the South Ealing-based branch joining more than 200 other branches across the UK and Ireland providing round-the-clock support over Christmas and the new year. The charity can be contacted free on 116 123.
