Firefighters have reiterated safety advice about household “white goods” after a tumble dryer fault was responsible for a fire at a semi-detached house in Hanwell last Friday (5 December 2025).
London Fire Brigade (LFB) said most of a conservatory at the property on Elthorne Park Road was damaged in the incident. One man was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and was caused by an electrical fault in a tumble dryer, the brigade said.
Control officers received the first of eight emergency calls at 11.13pm on 5 December 2025. Four fire engines and about 25 firefighters from Ealing, Acton, Heston and Chiswick stations attended. The fire was brought under control by 11.52pm.
An LFB spokesperson urged residents not to ignore unusual noises from appliances. The spokesperson said: “This incident serves as an important reminder to make sure that your white goods aren’t a hidden fire hazard in your home.
“If your white goods start making strange noises, don’t ignore it. If you think there’s a problem always unplug it and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician.
“Most fires where white goods are the source of ignition are not down to anything you have done – so always make sure you register your appliances as you’ll be informed if any issues are identified with the product you’ve bought.”
