Care homes in Ealing came 27th out of 32 London boroughs for standards in a new report, behind neighbouring areas including Harrow and Hillingdon.
The borough recorded 81.58% of homes rated good or outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, below Harrow’s 96.08% and Hillingdon’s 90.70%.
Hammersmith and Fulham also placed above Ealing in 21st position with 87.5%, while Brent ranked 23rd on 87.23%.
The figures come from a report by High Speed Training, which analysed CQC data covering more than 13,500 care homes across England.
Of the 38 homes included in Ealing, 31 were rated good and seven were classed as requires improvement. None were rated outstanding, but none were rated inadequate.
By comparison, Harrow had 5.88% of homes rated outstanding, while Hammersmith and Fulham recorded 12.5% — the highest share among Ealing’s neighbouring boroughs.
During inspections, the Care Quality Commission assesses homes across five key areas: whether services are safe, effective, caring, responsive to residents’ needs and well-led.
The report said leadership and management was the most common area for weaker ratings nationally, with governance and consistency presenting the biggest challenge for providers.
Across London, 89.76% of care homes were rated good or outstanding, making the capital the second best-performing region in England. The study also found 30 of London’s 32 boroughs had no homes rated inadequate.
At the top of the London table were Westminster, Merton and Islington, where every home assessed was rated good or outstanding.
Camden placed lowest, with 66.67% of homes rated good or outstanding and 33.33% classed as requires improvement or inadequate.
Dr Richard Anderson, director of learning at High Speed Training, said: “The ratings provided by the CQC are a really important part of the care home landscape, as they give the public an accessible way to assess the quality of care available to them.
“Our report shows that, across England, standards are really high, with almost 83% of care homes receiving a rating of good or outstanding.”
