Ealing Council is seeking residents’ views on plans to change Popes Lane, including the removal of 18 parking spaces, new traffic-calming measures and improved pedestrian crossings.
The consultation covers the section of Popes Lane between the A406 and Rose Gardens and runs until 26 July 2026. The council says the changes are intended to tackle speeding, improve bus reliability and make the road safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
According to the council, obstructive parking during major events at Gunnersbury Park has on several occasions forced London Buses to divert services because the road becomes too narrow. At quieter times, when parking demand is lower, it says the wider carriageway encourages excessive vehicle speeds, creating an inconsistent and sometimes unsafe environment.
The plans would reduce permit holder parking bays between Gunnersbury Drive and Cedar Grove from 76 to 58. The council says there are currently 57 registered permit holders on Popes Lane, with additional parking available on nearby roads within the same controlled parking zone. It also plans to review parking arrangements in the area later this year because of increased demand during weekends and events at Gunnersbury Park.
Other proposed improvements include wider pavements, upgraded bus stops, new pedestrian and cycle crossings, improved access to Gunnersbury Park and rain gardens to improve drainage, manage surface water and increase greening along the route.
Residents can take part in the consultation by completing the online survey on Ealing Council’s Popes Lane consultation page.
