Deal agreed to unlock huge Old Oak redevelopment site

A huge regeneration project around Old Oak Common station has taken a major step forward after City Hall and the government agreed plans to bring together 70 acres of land for redevelopment.

The Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC) said the agreement with the Department for Transport and Network Rail would allow the area around the new west London station to be planned as a single site for the first time.

The scheme, expected to be worth around £10 billion, includes plans for 8,000 homes, more than 11,000 jobs and large amounts of commercial and community space.

Old Oak Common station, currently under construction, will connect HS2 with the Elizabeth line, Great Western Main Line and Heathrow Express.

OPDC has also begun searching for a private sector partner to help deliver the project, with the formal procurement process opening later this month.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said the agreement would help unlock new homes, jobs and public spaces while transforming a large brownfield site in west London. He said: “We’re unlocking land for thousands of affordable homes and jobs, alongside thriving public spaces all connected by incredible transport links.”

Rail minister Lord Peter Hendy added: “The new station at Old Oak Common for HS2 will be a massive catalyst for growth, housing and jobs in West London and will drive a £10 billion boost to the national and local economy.”

Dame Karen Buck, chair of OPDC, said bringing the land together created a “once-in-a-generation” opportunity to build a new district around the station.
