A crowdfunding appeal to fund life-saving surgery for a cat struck by a driven car on St Mary’s Road in Ealing has raised £8,000, as donations continue to come in towards its £10,000 GoFundMe target.
The cat, Zeus, was originally rescued by Dan Fable, a 32-year-old songwriter, who found him injured while on holiday in Crete. Zeus had suffered a broken leg and Mr Fable worked with local vets to arrange treatment before bringing him back to the UK.
On Tuesday (11 March 2025) at around 11:30pm, Zeus was hit by a vehicle outside Mr Fable’s home in which the driver did not stop, leaving him in need of urgent veterinary care. The cost of treatment, including surgery, is expected to exceed £10,000.
The GoFundMe campaign has attracted widespread support, with Mr Fable explaining the urgency of the situation on the fundraising page. He wrote: “The vets are telling me he requires surgery if he has a chance of living. Even the surgery isn’t a guarantee, but it greatly increases his chances of recovering from this.
“The surgery, alongside his existing vet care, is going to cost over £10,000. I hate to have to beg for money from people, but I need Zeus to have this surgery and I just want to make it possible by any means necessary. I want there to be a light on for Zeus still.”
Speaking to Ealing News, Mr Fable said: “He means the world to me and he has been through so much in his life. He’s very brave and strong!”
