Apprentices recognised at Ealing Council awards

Apprentices and their supervisors at Ealing Council have been recognised for their work at an awards ceremony (14 February 2025) at Perceval House to mark National Apprenticeship Week 2025 last week.

The annual apprenticeship graduation and awards, which have taken place since 2009, aim to highlight the work apprentices at Ealing Council do across the borough along with the contribution supervisors make to support the apprentices.

Currently Ealing Council employs 20 apprentices on its apprenticeship scheme which started in 2007.

Katrina Deryawish, an HR recruitment apprentice won the Apprentice of the Year category which also saw Rachel Daniels, events and administration apprentice and Christian Tobon, safer communities apprentice also nominated.

On selecting Katrina for the award, the judges said: “Katrina’s willingness to take on new challenges with a positive attitude and team-orientated approach have made her a valuable asset to the team, which is reflected in her consistent growth and dedication to her apprenticeship role.”

Winning the Supervisor of the Year category was Daniel Malone-O’Halloran, safer communities team manager while Joseph Appiah-Danquah, UKSPF programme manager and Julie Bukhari, housing solutions manager were also nominated.

The judges said of Mr Malone-O’Halloran: “Daniel has continuously encouraged his apprentice to enhance their skills. His dedication to fostering professional development, along with offering bespoke training and guidance, has significantly impacted his apprentice’s journey.”

As well as giving out the two awards, the ceremony saw a number of other apprentices receive a certificate as part of a “graduation” to mark their achievements.

Leader of Ealing Council, Councillor Peter Mason said: “Apprenticeships are a big part of our ambition to create more good jobs in the borough. They make sense for all involved. Local employers who take on apprentices can expect to receive full support from us around the process of hiring, employing, and training. Apprentices, in turn, get unrivalled, on-the-job training, and a route into a career with decent pay.”

Council cabinet member for decent living incomes Councillor Kamaljit Nagpal added: “It was wonderful to see our apprentices and supervisors being celebrated for their achievements this past year. Participants should be proud of their experiences, learning and studying whilst gaining vital workplace skills at the same time. Well done to everyone for their hard work and commitment. I look forward to seeing what they go on to do next.”
