Work has begun on a £1.65 million expansion and refurbishment of the emergency department at Ealing Hospital, run by London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, to increase capacity and improve patient care as demand for emergency treatment continues to rise.
The 14-week project started last Wednesday (29 July 2026), and is expected to be completed by the middle of October 2026.
The redevelopment will create nine new urgent treatment examination pods, including two designed to provide greater privacy during examinations. Eight additional treatment spaces will also be added, alongside new assessment and diagnostic rooms to help patients be seen more quickly.
The hospital’s “pitstop” area, where patients arriving by ambulance are initially assessed, will be expanded from four to six trolley spaces and include a new centrally located staff base.
The improvements are intended to help the hospital cope with increasing numbers of emergency patients, including the expected growth in ambulance arrivals, while improving patient flow through the department. The scheme also supports standards set out under the NHS Model Hospital programme.
Hospital bosses say the investment will improve safety, reduce congestion within the department and provide a better environment for both patients and staff while helping prepare the hospital for future demand.
