Ealing mental health hub opens for walk-in support

A new mental health “Safe Space” has opened in Southall, offering residents in Ealing a free, walk-in service for those experiencing distress or crisis.

The hub, based in the Wolsey Wing at St Bernard’s Hospital, is open daily from 2pm to 10pm, including weekends and bank holidays. It is available to adults aged 18 and over, with no appointment or referral required.

Delivered by Hestia, a charity specialising in mental health crisis support, in partnership with West London NHS Trust, the service provides a community-based alternative to emergency departments. Visitors can access one-to-one support from trained staff, receive help creating personalised support plans, and be signposted to local services. The space also offers a calm environment alongside basic refreshments.

According to Hestia, the service is designed to support people earlier, before mental health issues escalate into more acute crises, particularly during evenings and weekends when other services may be limited.

Patrick Ryan, chief executive of Hestia, said: “When someone is struggling with their mental health, having a safe place to go and someone to talk to can be critical. These hubs provide compassionate, community-based support outside normal working hours, helping people get the help they need at the time they most need it.”

He added: “These services help people get support earlier and prevent crises from escalating.”

A West London NHS Trust spokesperson added: “Safe Spaces are a vital part of our menu of services available to individuals experiencing mental health distress, providing timely, compassionate support away from high-pressure environments such as A&E.”
