A former Ealing councillor is seeking a return to local politics as the Liberal Democrats unveil their candidates for Northfield ward ahead of the 7 May 2026 elections.
Nigel Bakhai, who previously represented Elthorne ward – now Hanwell Broadway – from 2010 to 2014, will stand alongside Mark Andrews and Robert Hall. The party said the trio brings a mix of experience and local involvement to the contest.
Mr Bakhai has lived in Ealing for more than 25 years and previously chaired the Hanwell Community Forum. During his time on the council, he raised concerns over proposals for the redevelopment of Warren Farm and backed cross-party efforts to protect local health services.
Mr Andrews stood in neighbouring Walpole ward in 2022, where he increased the party’s vote share, while Mr Hall is standing for the first time.
Councillor Gary Malcolm, leader of the Ealing Liberal Democrats, said: “Nigel Bakhai is someone who will work with residents to sort out the issues in Northfield and represent residents in the town hall.”
Mr Bakhai said: “Northfield is a great place to live and Labour have failed in their duty to make the area a clean and safe place to live. As a Liberal Democrat candidate, I will work with residents and the Council to sort out the SuDS fiasco and give hope to residents who have been let down by Labour for many years.”
