Ealing’s University of West London (UWL) has signed a new civic agreement with Hounslow Council, in a move aimed at strengthening skills, innovation and opportunities for local residents in the borough.
The agreement, formalised at an event at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, brings together representatives from education, industry and the public sector. It builds on an existing partnership between the university and the council aimed at linking economic growth in the borough to improved access to education, employment and training.
A central element of the deal is the planned Golden Mile London Skills and Innovation Hub, being developed with Hadley Property Group. The hub will support entrepreneurs, start-ups and established firms, while connecting businesses with UWL’s academic expertise and student talent.
Efforts to increase participation in higher education will also be expanded, particularly in Feltham, where university uptake has historically been lower.
Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, leader of Hounslow Council, said: “This agreement will help ensure Hounslow residents can benefit from the jobs and opportunities being created in the borough.”
Professor Peter John CBE, vice-chancellor and president of UWL, said: “As a university rooted in West London, we are proud to play an active role in supporting the communities and businesses around us. This civic agreement strengthens our partnership with Hounslow Council and builds on the work we are undertaking to connect education, skills and innovation with the needs of the borough.
