Residents across Ealing are being encouraged by Ealing Council to consider becoming school governors and help support primary and secondary schools across the borough.
Ealing Council is holding a free online information event on 11 June from 6.30pm to 7.30pm for people interested in finding out more about the voluntary role.
School governors work with headteachers and senior leaders at a strategic level. They help set priorities, support and challenge school leaders, and make sure schools are using their resources effectively.
Councillor Blerina Hashani, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for a fairer start, said: “School governors play a vital role in shaping the future of our children and young people. I would encourage anyone who is passionate about education, fairness and community to consider becoming a governor. It’s a rewarding way to make a real difference in the borough.”
Stephanie Leane, who has been a governor at Springhallow School in West Ealing since April 2025 said: “People sometimes think school governors are fuddy-duddies who just love rules. But it’s about being disciplined, asking questions, and acting as a critical friend to the school.”
Adam Nazar-Bhandari, chair of governors at Perivale Primary School, said curiosity was an important part of the role. He added: “Everything is impact-led, you need to think, ‘what outcome can we achieve for pupils’, and ‘what’s the benefit to them’?”
