A man has been charged after police investigating a series of thefts from cars around Ealing Broadway carried out a targeted operation in the town centre.
The operation, led by the Met’s Ealing Neighbourhoods and Town Centre Team, was launched following concerns from residents about vehicle crime in and around the Broadway area.
In a Met Engage posting, police said plain clothes officers PCs Verta, Rice, Ahsan and Blanchard were deployed across the town centre as part of the crackdown.
During patrols, PCs Verta and Rice discovered two damaged vehicles in Springbridge Car Park and began reviewing CCTV footage to identify a suspect. PCSO Nesbitt then helped officers circulate an image of the suspected offender to teams across the borough.
A short time later, Sgt Love, PCSO Nalder and PC Stack spotted a man matching the description while on patrol in West Ealing and arrested him.
Police said officers recovered suspected stolen items, including jewellery and bank cards, during the arrest. Further enquiries later linked the suspect to four additional thefts from vehicles across the area.
The Metropolitan Police said enquiries are continuing as officers believe other suspects may also have been involved.
Councillor Adam Keenan, Liberal Democrat councillor for Ealing Broadway ward, told EALING.NEWS: “This is further evidence that our local police team are working hard to bring criminals to justice. Ealing is a safer place thanks to their swift actions. As a member of the Ealing Broadway Safer Neighbourhoods Ward Panel the Liberal Democrats work with the police to make our area safer.”
Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious behaviour. In an emergency, people should call 999, while non-emergency concerns can be reported via 101 or through the Metropolitan Police website
