Hanwell Carnival takes a break for 2025

The organisers of the Hanwell Carnival have said it will be “taking a break” for 2025 as it seeks to focus this year on “strengthening the foundations of the Carnival”.

The popular annual event, which started in 1898, was scheduled to take place on 21 June 2025.

In a statement, the organisers said: “The organising team have regretfully decided that Hanwell Carnival will be taking a break in 2025. As one of the longest-running free carnivals in the UK, Hanwell Carnival has always been about bringing our community together to celebrate creativity, diversity and joy.

“However, organising an event of this scale has become increasingly challenging. Rising costs, tougher safety restrictions and a small organising team have made it difficult to sustain the Carnival without making changes.

“This pause is an opportunity for us to regroup, raise essential funds and expand our team to ensure that Carnival thrives for years to come. We very much hope that you will re-join us in 2026 when we will be bigger and better than ever!”

On its website, the organisers explained more about its decision to cancel the Carnival in 2025 as well as inviting people to help support it.

The organisers said it will be looking for new committee members to help with its plans. They said: “If you’re passionate about keeping this tradition alive and want to get involved, we’d love to hear from you”.

They added: “To ensure we can keep Carnival a free event for everyone, we’ll be hosting fundraising activities through the year. Stay tuned for announcements!”
