This summer, five of Ealing’s Fuller’s pubs will transform their gardens into open-air stages as Shakespeare in the Garden and Opera in the Garden return, joined by the debut of Wind in the Willows.
Local venues taking part include The Duke of Kent in Scotch Common, The Drayton Court Hotel and The Forester in West Ealing, The Plough Inn on Northfield Avenue, and The Rose & Crown on St Mary’s Road.
Shakespeare in the Garden marks its fourteenth season with Open Bar’s take on A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Featuring just five actors, the show is packed with “love, mischief and magic,” delivered with quick costume changes, music, comedy and audience participation.
Opera in the Garden returns as Rogue Opera presents Mozart’s Così fan tutte – a tale of love, loyalty and playful deception. With its informal garden setting, this adaptation is aimed at both opera fans and newcomers.
For families, Wind in the Willows makes its Fuller’s debut. Produced by The Old Joint Stock Theatre Company from Fuller’s Birmingham pub, the performance brings to life Kenneth Grahame’s beloved countryside adventures of Mole, Rat, Badger and Toad.
Fuller’s Marketing Director Sam Bourke said: “Shakespeare in the Garden and Opera in the Garden have been so popular in the past – we’re expecting this year to be a sell out once again. And to be able to put on Wind in the Willows, a show produced by our very own theatre company, is really special. Our gardens are the perfect setting to enjoy these showstopping productions with a drink in hand – and don’t forget to book for a pre-show dinner.”
