Six wanted people arrested as police use facial recognition in Southall

Six people wanted by police were arrested during a live facial recognition operation in Southall, the Metropolitan Police said.

Officers from Ealing’s Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out the operation last week ( 21 October 2026). The Met said five men and one woman were arrested. Searches following the arrests found one suspect with Class A drugs and a knife, and another with Class B drugs. A further individual was confirmed to be on the sex offenders register.

The operation was the third live facial recognition deployment in Southall in four months. The Met said the three previous deployments had led to 22 arrests in total. Officers had also stopped seven registered sex offenders to check whether they were complying with their conditions.

The force described the technology as an effective way to find wanted people and disrupt other criminal activity.
