An Acton-based Metropolitan Police sergeant is appealing for more residents and businesses to take part in North Acton’s ward panel.
The panel gives locals the opportunity to raise concerns, help shape neighbourhood policing priorities and ask officers what action they have taken. Attendance at meetings has been low for some time, and the panel has also been without a permanent chair.
Posting on Met Engage, Sergeant Matthew Buckland said: “I firmly believe that ward panels are an important part of local policing. They provide residents and businesses with the opportunity to hear about issues affecting the area, discuss community concerns, and help shape the priorities that the Neighbourhood Policing Team focuses on.”
Sergeant Buckland said: “Whilst we could continue to operate the panel in its current format, I would like to see it become more representative, better attended, and more influential in shaping local policing activity.”
Sergeant Buckland added that the panel’s role in holding the local team to account was “essential in helping us, your local police, remain accountable to the communities we serve”.
