Match report: Frome Town 2 v Hanwell Town 2

Hanwell Town brought a hard-earned point back from Somerset on Saturday (12 September 2026) as they ended their four-game goalless run in the league. They faced an in-form Frome Town side who had won four of their first six games, sitting in a playoff spot at this early stage of the season.

The tone of the game was set early when Hanwell’s Ibby Sankoh had a shot saved by Kyle Phillips, before Frome broke down the other end forcing Sam Beasant into a smart save. The Robins were content to try and hit Chris Moore’s side on the counter throughout the game. A dangerous free kick from Harry Hoath, who has returned from Chesham on dual registration, whipped narrowly over everyone in the box.

Captain Beasant made a few valuable saves throughout the first half including a double save just before half time. His efforts were rewarded when a chipped ball over the Frome defence from Eddie Cooper found Henry Snee, who calmly found the back of the net to give Hanwell the lead at the break.

The Robins found an equaliser shortly after half time when Jon Davies bundled in a low cross at the back post. Zak Joseph, who’s return brought a creative spark to the side, sliced a half volley wide of the post. With Hanwell pushing for the lead again, it was Frome who struck first. A speculative long ball found Zack Ali, who found the bottom corner of the net. Another superb save from Beasant to deny Sam Meakes kept the Geordies in the game, and Henry Snee once again kept his cool as he controlled the ball well in the box and fired home to grab a deserved equaliser.

Hanwell pushed hard for the win in added time, but Frome held out to secure the point. Assistant Manager Lee Riddell said after the game that he was happy with the result, credited the impact of substitutes, but felt that there was still more work to be done defensively to pick up more points.

The Geordie’s next home game is a return to FA Cup action, as they face either Burgess Hill Town or Jersey Bulls in the Second Qualifying Round. The game is expected to be played on Saturday 19th September with a 3pm kick-off. Tickets will be available at www.hanwelltown.com once we know who we are playing, or on the gate.
