A Park Royal dessert company has launched an ice cream range for dogs to raise money for pet food banks supporting owners struggling with the rising cost of caring for their animals.
Udderly Lush will donate 15% of revenue from its Lush Puppy dog sundaes to local pet food banks and says its first donation has already provided more than 150kg of pet food to the Mayhew Animal Home.
The plant-based sundaes, which include flavours Bark-Bramble Velvet, Banan-O-Rama Peanut Crunch and Puppuccino Vanilla Roast, are made without dairy, caffeine or chocolate and cost £6 for 130g.
Udderly Lush said it developed the range after food banks it worked with reported increasing demand for dog food, while customers at one of its summer events suggested making ice cream for dogs.
RSPCA research published this year found that 75% of pet owners reported the cost of caring for their animals had increased over the previous 12 months.
Udderly Lush founder Greg Wixted said: “Many UK pet owners are worried about the rising cost of caring for their animals. We cannot fix that alone, but we can make sure every sundae we serve helps put food back in bowls somewhere else.”
