Businesses in Ealing are being urged to donate unwanted computers, laptops and mobile phones to help fund job training and provide refurbished devices to people without suitable technology.
Action West London has launched a free collection service for businesses, with unwanted equipment collected from their premises before data is securely erased. Devices will then be refurbished or recycled.
The charity says money raised through the scheme will support employability training for jobseekers and young people, while refurbished equipment will be provided to people experiencing digital exclusion.
Action West London chief executive Gary Buckley said: “West London businesses are sitting on redundant IT equipment that could genuinely transform lives in our neighbourhood.
“By using our free service, companies clear out their unwanted tech and meet their GDPR obligations while directly funding local education, training and job creation.”
Businesses donating equipment will receive a certificate confirming their data has been destroyed. Equipment that cannot be reused will be recycled.
