Nearly 2,000 fewer people were in payrolled employment in Ealing in July 2026 compared with a year earlier, new figures reveal.
The number of workers fell by 1.1% to 181,097, a reduction of 1,975 people, according to analysis of HM Revenue and Customs data by WageSight.
Employment also fell by 395 workers, or 0.2%, between June and July 2026.
Ealing’s annual decline was greater than the average 0.8% fall across London and the 0.3% drop recorded across the UK.
Neighbouring Brent recorded a sharper fall, with payrolled employment down 1.6% over the year to 169,580 workers. Median monthly pay in Brent stood at £2,738, up 5% over the year.
In Ealing, median monthly pay was higher at £2,930, up 4.7% or £131 compared with a year earlier.
Paul Hebden of Campaign Salience, which runs WageSight, said: “Latest figures show that employers in Ealing have seen a dip in payroll compared to the same month last year.
“On the flip side, wages for those in work continue to surge. The positive story is that workers in Ealing are seeing their pay packets grow.
“That’s money in people’s pockets, and it matters for local businesses and public services. But there will be understandable concern at the employment picture.”
