More than 3,400 free lunches are being provided to children attending holiday clubs in Ealing during the six-week summer break.
Charity Akshaya Patra UK is providing the meals across 12 sites run through six partner clubs between 20 July and 28 August 2026.
An average of around 142 children a day have received meals so far, with the number reaching around 247 in a single day in early August.
An Akshaya Patra UK spokesperson told EALING.NEWS: “Summer should be a time for children to enjoy their holidays, not worry about where their next meal is coming from.
“Behind the summer holidays is a hidden reality for many families who face impossible choices between paying household bills and putting nutritious food on the table.”
One of Akshaya Patra UK’s partners is PSD Funweeks, which is receiving meals at six locations in Ealing.
Meals include jollof rice, vegetable lasagne, biryani, spinach rice and spaghetti with vegetables, alongside seasonal fruit and a dessert.
The lunches are being provided as part of the Government-backed Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme for children from Reception to Year 11 who receive benefits-related free school meals and either live or attend school in Ealing.
Eligible families are contacted before the holidays with details of how to book places at participating clubs, where children can take part in activities as well as receive lunch.
