Firefighters tackle three-hectare blaze at Perivale Park in Greenford

Around three hectares of grass and shrubland were destroyed after a fire broke out at Perivale Park in Greenford on Wednesday (12 August 2026).

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to tackle the blaze, with crews using specialist wildfire equipment including backpack blowers and beaters.

The fire came during a period of hot weather in London, with the London Fire Brigade warning that fires in parks and open spaces can spread rapidly and require significant resources.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “While we are fully prepared to respond, we need everyone to play their part in helping to prevent incidents.

“Wildfires in particular can spread rapidly, require significant resources and have devastating consequences for people, properties, wildlife and the environment.”

The brigade urged people visiting parks and other open spaces not to use disposable barbecues and to dispose of cigarettes and other smoking materials responsibly.
