Councillor Gary Malcolm, leader of the Ealing Liberal Democrats, joined Ealing Council staff and Ealing councillors from across the political spectrum at the Pride in London parade on Saturday (4 July 2026). He reflects on the event and why he believes it matters.
“It was wonderful to see lots of Ealing Council staff and councillors from all political parties at the Pride in London parade. The parade lasted for a few hours walking in a group from near Green Park towards Trafalgar Square.
“Pride in London is a historic LGBTQIA+ celebration that transforms the capital. The day is filled with positivity, colour, music and lots of smiling and laughter.
“It was a pleasure to be handed the lollipop and lead the Ealing group of around 50 people through the streets. You were stopped and people called out to you about their links to Ealing: “I live in Ealing!”, “I have been to Ealing once” and “Big up Ealing”. Made you proud of Ealing as we showed off the diversity that Ealing has.
“Liberal Democrats have a record of standing up for the rights of many victimised groups and it is especially more important now than ever to show solidarity to the LGBTQ+ community because of changes that might affect the trans communities.
“I want people to be allowed to get on with their lives without any hassle, distain or threatening behaviour. Being at the Pride London parade was a way to show support and maximise the visibility of the city’s diverse LGBTQIA+ communities.
“I hope that today the many Londoners and tourists who lined the streets to watch the parade will have had a great today and will tell their friends, colleagues and housemates where they were on Saturday 4th July to help spread the message about the LGBTQ+ community.
“If you did not attend Pride in London this year, then please do come in 2027. You will have a wonderful fun time.”
