Ealing author and former journalist Mark Jolly has released a new children’s adventure novel exploring themes of bereavement and wildlife conservation.
The Unicorn Society, which is out today (28 May 2026) follows 12-year-old Felicity, who hopes discovering a mysterious creature believed to be extinct — or possibly never to have existed — will solve her problems and make her famous.

Joined by her friend Simon, her uncle and dog, she travels to dangerous mountain regions in search of the elusive animal, only to face forces determined to stop them.
The middle-grade novel blends humour and fantasy with environmental and emotional themes aimed at younger readers.
Mark Jolly previously worked as an advertising copywriter before becoming a journalist for local and national newspapers and websites. He has also written the novel Suburban Guerrilla and stage play Blue for a Girl.
He said: “Even though it is lighthearted, and on the edge of reality and fantasy, there are serious themes such as nature and conservation, and dealing with bereavement.”
