Poundland out, TK Maxx in at Acton’s The Oaks?

The Oaks Shopping Centre in Acton is set for further retail changes following last week’s closure of Poundland and growing speculation that the former Wilko site could become a new TK Maxx store.

Poundland, which opened at The Oaks in October 2020, officially closed its doors on 21 May 2026.

At the time of the opening, Austin Cooke, retail director at Poundland, said: “We’re looking forward to playing our part in the high street’s regeneration.”

Meanwhile, speculation is mounting that the former Wilko premises next to Lidl could be taken over by discount clothing and homewares retailer, TK Maxx.

Wilko first opened at The Oaks in August 2019 before shutting in September 2023 following the retailer’s collapse into administration. The large retail unit has remained vacant ever since.

In May 2025, TK Maxx revealed a number of London locations it was considering for future expansion, including Acton. Property firms Brasier Freeth and KLM Real Estate were appointed by the retailer to identify suitable store locations across the capital.

The Oaks Shopping Centre officially opened in October 2019. At the opening, Anne Hurrell from NFU Mutual, owner of The Oaks shopping centre, said: “After a number of years in the making, we are pleased that this first-class shopping centre in Acton is delivering high quality retail and leisure facilities to the community.

“We have worked hard to bring a fantastic mix of retailers to Acton and are in further talks with many others to make The Oaks a welcome addition to the area.”

The shopping centre has seen several high-profile retail changes in recent years. Starbucks closed its Oaks branch in November 2025 after opening in April 2024 in a unit previously occupied by Boots.

EALING.NEWS has approached Poundland for comment and also contacted TK Maxx regarding the former Wilko unit.
